Your Child's Future is NowStudents need to put to use the skills they learn today to succeed in the future job market. What exactly should students learn now to help them out in the future? Math and computer science skills are key skills to know for your child to succeed in the job market in the years to come. Let's take a closer look at these skills and others that can help your child do well in the future job market.

Math Skills

Math skills are highly sought after and can be put to use in future job markets. Studies show that robots will take over jobs that many people can do today, and having math skills that are put to good use can help your child stand out among other future workers. Math skills can be taught starting at a young age, using an Abacus to teach counting, for example. Common core can also help since one of the subjects emphasized in teaching and testing throughout public schools is mathematics.

Computer Science Skills

Another set of skills that will be important to know are computer science skills. Coding will be valuable since more companies are getting online and using technical methods to reach clients. These companies are also opening up more tech-related jobs, so these skills are important to learn. Learning them early on will give these students a jump start to knowing these skills once they enter the workforce. Coding is basically solving tech problems as a programmer, and problem-solving is a skill that can be used in many areas of life.

Writing and Reading Skills

Writing and reading skills are also important to know since both are needed to succeed in math and computer science. Reading comprehension and creative writing can also be beneficial for future use when taught using real-life problems and scenarios. Help your child build better writing skills by having them practice essays and daily journals at home.

Other Skills to Know

Other skills known as soft skills are just as important for individuals to have to succeed in the future workforce. These skills include sharing, negotiating, cooperation, empathy, and other general interpersonal skills. Surprisingly, many of these skills are learned and taught in preschool age children. Unfortunately, a number of these skills learned at the child development stage are lost or forgotten as a child gets older. As a parent, it's important to continue to instill these skills in your child by showing them how to perform these skill such as sharing, negotiating with others, and being kind.

What to do Now

As a parent, help your child become more skilled and efficient in math and computer skills by helping them out with homework, asking their teachers what you can do at home to help, and encouraging your child to do the best they can do while in school. Help your child succeed in the future by encouraging them to practice these skills now.
