Genie Academy Grad Gets Into Gifted and Talented Program 

Graduated Student Still Uses Abacus to Get Ahead in School

At Genie Academy, we are always ecstatic to hear about when another one of our very talented students gains admission into the Gifted and Talented program at their school. The whole point of Genie Academy is to enrich your child's education and help them grow academically and as a person. A recent success story is of graduated Genie Academy student, Angelina.

The Impact of the Abacus

Angelina remarks about her favorite part of Genie Academy. She loves using the abacus to learn how to easily solve math problems, and the abacus often helps her in real life. At school, she is far ahead of her peers, especially when it comes to math. In her interview with Genie Academy team member Mr. Miguel, Angelina talks about how her Genie Academy teachers give her more individualized attention compared to her regular teachers at school. 

Not only did Angela have an increase in her math grades at school. Learning and regularly practicing mental math at the abacus and improving in her core curriculum allowed her the opportunity to easily pick up and memorize music to play on the piano. She compares playing the piano to remembering a series of shapes in a pattern.

One of Angelina’s proudest accomplishments was gaining admission to the Gifted and Talented program at her school. It gave her the opportunity to learn more about engineering and science. At Angelina’s new school, she took an optional placement test. She got into the honor class for every subject- English, science, social studies, pre-algebra, financial literacy, technical reading and writing, etc.

Angelina’s parents comment on her increased confidence in every area of life. She is very sharp and easily picks up on new skills. Angelina’s parents often prompt her with real-life money problems. Her father will ask her how much change they are due in stores and restaurants and encourages Angelina to calculate mentally whenever possible.

Angelina’s parents believe that Genie Academy played an important part in where Angelina stands today.
